Capacity Building
At the core of Mary’s consulting services is the concept of “Capacity Building”. This is a broad term with three directed sections: Financial Management, Financial Resource Development, and Executive Mentoring. To explore the relationships between these sections, click the titles above.
Financial Management
Provide support in the management of financial resources. Support comes in various forms such as developing or strengthening financial management systems (aka the bookkeeping management tool). Training and mentoring bookkeepers on the nuances between nonprofit vs. for-profit accounting. Assisting organizations by improving accountability and transparency in financial reporting, policies, and procedures. Educating Executive Directors and/or Board of Directors on importance of accountability and financial statements. Helping managers and staff understand and track social enterprise ventures.
Financial Resource Development
Provide assistance in the acquisition of financial resources, specifically grant planning, research, and proposal writing. Once grants are acquired and if needed, services are offered in mentoring staff on grant administration, fiscal management, and financial reporting. Additional work may include assessing the organization’s financial resource development strategies to determine strengths and weaknesses. Mary also counsels leaders, staff, and volunteers on how to position the organization in order to attract, secure, and maintain additional streams of revenue.
Executive Mentoring
Counsel visionaries and leaders interested in developing nonprofit organizations. Counseling includes identifying the parameters for incorporating and managing a successful nonprofit organization. Educating founders about incorporation at the local and federal level and the development of articles of incorporation and by-laws. Executive mentoring services also include helping newly appointed or seasoned Executive Directors gain insight on the nonprofit sector and develop their natural leadership ability so they may enhance the organization’s mission.
